Cops: Couple takes car, claims sick relative

NORMAL -- Police are looking for a couple who drove off with a new car without paying for it, claiming they needed to visit a sick relative.

A 21-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man drove away from O’Brien Mitsubishi, 1601 Fort Jesse Road, in a 2008 Lancer Evolution on Saturday although the purchase agreement was incomplete, a Normal police report said.

They refused to leave the $1,500 that the business requested, and said they needed the car to go to Decatur because her grandfather was having heart problems. Their credit card number was declined and three contact phone numbers had been disconnected.

" Oh btw, my grandpa is locally in the hospital, hes dying of cronic heart failure, and I didnt go see him, because he wasnt in the hospital until 3 days after we had the car, he is at St.Joseph in Bloomington. And as far as us saying we needed the car for that, LIES LIES LIES!!! They delivered it to me on campus, and left both keys. They are absolutly needing business. GO TO SATURN of Bloomington Normal, they are good people and are amazing. You can comment to us if you want, we will keep checking this. I want to know who "HOOSIER" is. Enlighten me. Thanks "

" we are the supposed car thieves . The car had full coverage insurance before it was PURCHASED. We signed all the paper work before we even got the car. They delivered the car to my dorm and it had plates on it with the stickers, and was registered in the state data base. As far as the credit card info not going through, I NEVER REFUSED PAYMENT FAR FROM IT, they wrote down the wrong card number and as far as the phone numbers, They had 2 dorm numbers which DONT get disconnected and a cell phone which anyone could call and talk to me on. ITS B.S. as far as it being stolen, LOL, its a civil matter not criminal. Thats the story. XOXO AshLeigh and Josh "

" this is what happens to greedy car dealers...... make sure the contract is signed, the credit card is good, and THEN give them the car. "

" Sometimes dealers give you loaner cars for a few days to decide if you want it and if you have already entered in to the agreement they will also give you the car to take with you and have you come back to sign paperwork - especially on a saturday. I have been in both situations before. Unfortunately people aren't always honest and these two apparently aren't honest. I am sure the people at O'brien have enough info for the cops to catch the two - just a matter of time. Good luck!! Hope that they don't take it out on the guy trying to make the sale - he probalby feels bad enough already! "

" Hopefully O'Brien doesn't have to cut budgets to compensate for this loss. I'd hate for them to have to use less "laserbeam" sound effects and screaming announcers in their commercials. "

" They were smart enough to steal the fastest and most expensive Mitsubishi made! They should not be hard to catch since Evo's need new clutches and tires after the first 30 minutes or 100 miles, whichever comes first... "
