PEORIA -- Two former college students who were convicted in the death of a Bradley University soccer player have been released from jail.

David Crady and Daniel Cox served a six-month sentence and were released from the Peoria County jail on Wednesday.

Crady, Cox and two others pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the August 2007 death of 19-year-old Sheridan “Danny” Dahlquist. The others are scheduled to be released later this week.

Dahlquist died of carbon monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation after the men lit a roman candle under his bedroom door.

Police say all five had been drinking.

" 6 months for killing two people? Insane, to say the least. "

" Sorry Venture, I like your show, but I agree w/ Mdorf that prison is for rehabilitation and these boys, although negligent, won't gain anything by spending time in prison. What may happen is they come out of prison totally changed by prison in a negative way. They may not be able to adjust to society, especially after some of the brutal things that could happen to them on the inside. I think they learned a lesson the hardest way....watching their friend die and knowing they are responsible. They attended his funeral. I think they regret their stupidity, but prison is too much....in my opinion. "

" Randall Flagg..your logical reasoning "skillz" of my post are ignorant. You seem to think this is some kind of "accident"..howerver you fail to understand that lighting and placing these fireworks INSIDE a residental structure isnt an "accident"- it was NEGLIGENT. I stand by my position that the punishment recived was too little in thes case. "

" Give me a break, ES. It was an unfortunate accident. Do you think if you gave them ten years, the next kids that are considering a stupid prank are going to reconsider. If the prospect of this kid being killed had entered their minds at all, they wouldn't have done it. Prison is supposed to be a punishment that aims to rehabilitate. These kids learned their lesson the night of the accident. Locking them up longer doesn't help anyone, and costs taxpayers money. "

" What the problem is that these kids have set the precedent for future crimes. Some rich white kids do an act that causes someone's death and they are slapped on the hand. Are their parents from influential families? What kind of deal was made? However, if this is a prank gone wrong for someone who has little money, the book is thrown at them. Elitism justice is not justice at all. "

" Unless the driver is DUI or otherwise impaired, a car accident hardly seems like an equal set of circumstances. Maybe if someone lit a roman candle in the car and that's what caused the crash. :P Irresponsible and excessive drinking was the motivating factor behind this tragedy. Sadly I'm surprised these kinds of things don't happen more often. "

" Hey Venture, it was a mistake that everyone regrets. If you accidentally harm or kill someone, you don't get sentenced like a premeditated crime. Do you think they wanted their friend to die? I hope you never accidentally hit someone with your car, but if you do, I bet you won't volunteer to spend your life in jail. Would you like it better if they were all burned as well? Eye for an eye....crazy. "
