EUREKA -- Authorities suspect the driver of a pickup truck was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed head-on with another vehicle Friday afternoon east of Eureka, killing a 38-year-old rural Washburn man.

Rodney G. Koch of rural Washburn was killed in the crash around 3:35 p.m. Friday on Woodford County 800 North Road near 1600 East Road, said Woodford County Coroner Tim Reustman on Saturday. He was a passenger in an eastbound pickup truck that crashed head-on into a westbound vehicle, he said.

The driver of the pickup truck, Nathan Fehr, 30, of Eureka, faces preliminary charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a revoked license, Reustman said.

Fehr remained in serious condition Saturday afternoon at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, a nursing supervisor said. It was unclear if the driver of the other vehicle, Chad Hillman, 33, of Eureka, was injured in the crash, but he was not listed as a patient at OSF Saint Francis.

Koch, who worked at the Eureka Locker, was married with two children, according to obituary information sent to The Pantagraph Saturday.
