5 years ago (2003): Normal Community’s soccer team won twice to complete a three-game sweep and capture the Bradley-Bourbonnais Tournament title. The Ironmen allowed just one goal over those three games, that coming in a 2-1 win over the hosts in the title game. Jason Bloom played all three games in goal for NCHS.
15 years ago (1993): Scott Plangger fired a one-hitter and struck out 15 to lead the Bloomington Hearts to a 4-1 win over Tate Farm Equipment of Stewardson-Strasburg in the championship game of the Amateur Softball Association State Tournament at Carlinville.
25 years ago (1983): Former Bloomington High School and Illinois State golfer Pete Wofford shot 72 and was six strokes behind leader Clark Burroughs after the first qualifying round of the 83rd U.S. Amateur Golf championship at Skokie Country Club near Chicago.
50 years ago (1958): After Normal Community football coach George Evans read that first-game opponent Bloomington might lose guard John Waddell to a shoulder injury, Evans called BHS coach George Bess to describe a special shoulder guard that might allow Waddell to play. “It was a very gentlemanly thing for George to do,” Bess said.
