How Time Flies for Sept. 1, 2008:
Sept. 1, 1908: The Hinshaw family will hold its first reunion today at Miller Park. They can trace their history back to 900 AD, when they were of the middle and gentry classes. (A present day reminder is Hinshaw Avenue in Bloomington.)
Sept. 1, 1933: A huge sunflower in the back yard of H.P. Marlin, 515 East Empire Street, is drawing attention from neighbors and passers-by. Someone counted the blossoms and came up with 117. No count was made of the buds.
Sept. 1, 1958: Teens and pre-teens held a backyard carnival at the home of Wendy Meyers, 12, of 1001 East Taylor. As many as 40 kids at a time were crammed into the Meyers’ small back yard. They were raising money to make a rumpus room in the Meyers’ basement.

Sept. 1, 1983: The casting call for extras in the movie “Grandview USA” drew a crowd in Pontiac. 1200 people showed up to apply for parts on the first day. Those selected will make $30 for the first eight hours, and time and a half afterward.
