Online survey seeks input on Normal library

NORMAL -- The future direction of the Normal Public Library is in the hands of the community -- literally.

Residents are being asked to take to their keyboards to fill out an online survey. The results will help a Colorado group create a master plan for the library.

“The master plan will help us make the best use of space and plan for future space,” said Mari McKeeth, adult services librarian.

The library hired Groups3 Planners of Arvada, Colo., and Humphries/Poli Architects of Denver, Colo., to develop a 10-year plan for the library.

The online survey is just one of several ways residents can have input. There also will be at least three public meetings on the master plan.

McKeeth said library officials hope even those who don’t use the library will complete the survey so the library will know why.

Initial questions ask where the responder lives and whether the person is a child, adult or teen. The answers to those questions will determine which set of questions the person answers next.

“It’s something the whole family can fill out,” McKeeth said.

The survey is available on the library’s Web site, at www.normal-library.org through Sept. 17.

McKeeth said the first public meeting to gather comments and discuss the results of the survey and comments made by focus groups will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Community Action Center, One Normal Plaza.

Another public meeting will be scheduled, and the public will have a chance to view the preliminary results of the master plan process in late February or early March.

Normal library, 206 W. College Ave., is landlocked. Group3 will consider ways the library could better use existing space, expand, add or subtract services or build a branch.
