Chiefs hang on to beat Kane County
By Pantagraph staff
GENEVA -- The Peoria Chiefs watched a seven-run lead almost slip away before finally putting away the Kane County Cougars, 8-6, in Midwest League play on Sunday at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium.
Peoria (30-39, 60-77) pounded out 14 hits while getting plenty of help in the form of six Kane County errors to grab an 8-1 sixth-inning lead.
The Cougars fired back with two runs in the sixth and a single run in the seventh before adding two more in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-6. Reliever Jake Muyco shut down Kane County in the ninth to preserve the win and pick up his fourth save.
The Chiefs face the Cougars in their season finale today with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
