Intercity swimming capsules provide a detailed summary Intercity girls high school swimming teams. University HighCoach: Ryan Burroughs, 9th season 2007: 1st in Intercity, 2nd in sectional. Returning letter winners: Sr. – Kathleen Knight, Cassie Anderson, Katie Klotzbach, Merryl Clemons, Ryanne Gorsuch; Jr. – Emily Hovren, Ali Taubert, Sarah Klass, Lauren Miller; So. – Emily Waltner. FYI: Knight is the reigning sectional champion in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle while Hovren is the reigning sectional champion in the 100 freestyle. Klotzback ranked third in the area last year in the 100 breaststroke at 1:13.39 while Anderson had the third-best diving score of 178.11. Normal CommunityCoach: Heather Budak, 4th season 2007: 2nd in Intercity, 5th in Big 12, 3rd in sectional Returning letter winners: Sr. – Lacy Alvis, Morgan Buechele, Kristine Klinzing, Shelby Brown, Brogan Riches, Jenifer Turner; Jr. – Emily Finamore, Marina Schulz, Kaylin Westhoff; So. – Hannah Monical. FYI: Caitlin Hamilton should destroy the Pantagraph area 500 free record of 5:01.10 set by Lindy Mercer of NCHS in 1993. Finamore had the area’s fifth-best 200 free time (2:02.17) while Alvis ranked fifth in the 200 IM (2:21.74), 100 back (1:05.33) and 100 fly (1:05.67). Klinzing’s 57.39 ranked fifth in the 100 free. BloomingtonCoach: Bob Loy, 30th season 2007: tie 3rd in Intercity, 6th in Big 12, 5th in sectional Returning letter winners: Sr. – Devon Alvis, Sami Morris, Elizabeth Waldorf; Jr. - Mandy Penland, Caroline Dirks, Natalee Olson, Elizabeth Pouliot; So. – Hannah Brown, Mellanie Olson, Stephanie Yoder. FYI: Penland was a 2006 state qualifier in the 200 IM, but was slowed by a staph infection last year. Normal WestCoach: Kate Gudeman, 2nd season 2007: tie 3rd in Intercity, 4th in Big 12, 6th in sectional Returning letter winners: Sr. – Lauren Drury, Heather Roney; Jr. – Kayla Orendorff, Kiley Swearingen; So. – Rachel Dean, Katelynn Maxhimer. FYI: Orendorff, who sped 5:33.33 in the 500 free to rank fifth in the area last year, is expected back soon from a shoulder injury.
