BLOOMINGTON -- A person who was found dead on Constitution Trail was identified Tuesday as a 38-year-old Bloomington man.

Michael D. Sealley of the 600 block of East Washington Street was identified as the man found dead Monday, said McLean County Coroner Beth C. Kimmerling in a statement Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:04 p.m. Monday. Police were called about 2:40 p.m. Monday when a body was found on the trail just north of the Emerson Street overpass.

Determining a cause of death depends on further study, specifically forensic toxicology results, Kimmerling said. However, the coroner noted Sealley had a significant cardiac history.

The coroner said earlier a witness on the trail saw a man kneeling in that vicinity within the hour before the emergency call.

" Mike's death was quite a shock to all of us. Thank you so much for all the kind words, stories and condolences you took the time to post. We knew he was a very caring young man. It really meant a lot to our family to read the stories you shared. "

" Mike was one of my dearest friends. At one low point in my life, Mike had been over for a visit. I had opened a candy bar that was having a contest. The inside of the wrapper said, "You are not a winner. Try again." When I wasn't looking, Mike altereed the wrapper and left it where I was sure to find it. It now read, "You are a winner again." I will miss him more than words can say. "

" This is to xkcd, who wrote True Story. I am a friend of Mike's from Joliet and what you wrote about Mike's generosity was just SO Mike. Thank you for taking the time to post that. It means a lot to those of us who knew him. He died too young but you are right, he deserves a place in heaven. "

" xkcd: That's a very touching story. It's good that you posted it, certainly his family members will read the story, and the comments below - no doubt your comment will fill their hearts with pride for this man, even in their grief. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. "

" True story:
Mike and I are (were) acquaintances and one day, I told him how I had lost my job. He didn't have a car, and one day asked if I would take him grocery shopping. While shopping, he pointed out things and said, "I've never tried that, have you? Is it any good?" I would say, "it's ok," or, "yeah, it's good." So, he would put it in the cart.

When the cart was full, and we reached the checkout, he paid for the groceries with food stamps (link card). We put them in my trunk, and then he said, "I think I'll walk home." I said, "but, what about your groceries?" He replied, "No, they're your groceries. Have a nice night."

Mike, I pray that you rest in peace. You deserve your place in Heaven. "

" If you're reading this now....one day you too will die. As will I. It is sad for those who are left on this side of the veil, but inevitable. I do not wish to diminish Mr Sealley's importance or his contributions to society only to point out to those of you that are finger pointing and trying to assign fault for this very natural occurence that it was time for him to leave us. Depending on your faith, beliefs or instinct he has moved on to ?????? where he is now. I, and only for myself I'm not here to proselytize, pray that he is with God and comforted. Have a very nice day. "

" All the majority of you people know how to do is place blame. Constantly, it's people pointing fingers and making ridiculously ignorant comments. A man passed away & somewhere out there his family/friends are grieving his lose. I extend my thoughts and prayers to the family & friends. (Leave it at that people) "

" Condolences to the family. What a sad story.

New Nana - Yes, where does it say a police officer saw the man in distress? The article yesterday mentioned a police officer on bike patrol had been in that area recently but nowhere did it say the officer saw the man on the ground in distress. Do tell. Anyone who saw this man and did not stop to help probably feels guilt and stress and does not need the anonymous public making him/her feel even worse. It would be nice if someone who saw the man stopped but there are any variety of reasons why someone may not have, and it's not our place to put forth judgment - we were not there, PERIOD. "

" I can only HOPE that these posters on here are incorrect and the man died while no one was around. I could see the jogger/biker saw him kneeling and thought he was tying his shoe or something but even in today's society I cannot FATHOM this happening here, while people just walked past. My prayers to the family AND society as a whole. "

" This is sad that this person who clearly needed aid was just ignored by passers by. You would expect to hear this story in NYC or some place like that, but here?

Times have certantly changed. "

" You are all CORRECT....when was the last time each of us said "Good morning or Have a Nice Day to someone and ask how their day was? I know the last time for me was this morning!!! As for the police officer who was seen in the area around this time, I know who you were and why is it you did not ask this man if he was ok when you saw him kneeling, bent forward on his elbows??? THIS IS PART OF YOUR JOB!!! "

" Not so Political and CentralIllinois hit the nail on the head. I wondered about this when I saw the story yesterday. Since this man ended up dead, he was almost surely in trouble when he was kneeling by the trail. Even if it was a woman running/walking alone she would almost certainly have been carrying a cell phone. I wonder how this person is feeling right now, knowing that the person they passed by has ended up dead. "

CentralIllinois wrote on Sep 3, 2008 8:26 AM:

" Not so... is exactly right. We're all in this human race together! I understand being sanely cautious but most all us carry cell phones. Talk the individual or call for help. It may not have made a difference for this man but it may have. "

Not so Political wrote on Sep 3, 2008 7:38 AM:

" People, this county is not at all that bad that you can not talk to people when passing. you can always ask if people are having a good day or if they need some help. I understand I do not expect a lady to ask a person if they are alone but couples or groups can always ask or help. If the person just looks at you you should help. "
