30-year-old appointed to fill spot on Lincoln City Council
LINCOLN -- Dean Henrichsmeyer is Lincoln’s newest Ward 1 alderman, filling the seat left vacant when Benny Huskins retired in July. “I think he will do a fine job,” Mayor Beth Davis-Kavelman said of the appointment. This is the first political appointment for Henrichsmeyer, 30, an engineering manager for Integrity Data in Lincoln. He and his wife, Krista, have a 5-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son. “I enjoy Lincoln and want it to be the best it can be,” he said after being sworn in. “I just kind of want to get settled in and see how things work.” Henrichsmeyer will fill the remainder of Huskins’ term, which will expire April 30. Committee appointments He will be the new chairman of the sanitation committee and vice chairman of the buildings and grounds committee. The mayor will announce three other committee assignments next week. Last month, Davis-Kavelman recommended Lincoln resident Stuart Churchill to fill the open seat vacated when Huskins retired July 15, but he could not serve because of a conflict of interest. Churchill serves on the Lincoln Public Library board, which also is a tax-levying body. By law, he cannot sit on the governing boards of two overlapping taxing districts. Lifesaving effort honored In other business, three emergency service staffers were honored for saving the life of a man who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest July 8 at the Logan County Fairground. On that day, crews were preparing for the Carson & Barnes Circus when a severe thunderstorm hit the area. During an evacuation into an exhibition building, a man whose identity was not released suffered a heart attack. Lincoln Fire Chief Kent Hulett said CPR was performed by city police Cpl. Robert Sherren, Assistant Fire Chief Mark Miller and Chris Harding, a fire inspector. The man began breathing on his own as a result and was taken to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. “We’re very proud of their actions in helping to save this man’s life,” Hulett said. Hulett said several other agencies and personnel, including 911 dispatchers and hospital emergency teams, also contributed in the effort. |
