Prairie Central makes it 2 straight with thriller over Eureka

FAIRBURY -- Chase Mowery and Jeff Sipe scored two touchdowns apiece and quarterback Jeremy Peters threw for two scores as Prairie Central High School’s football team outlasted Eureka, 38-36, in a wild Corn Belt Conference game in the rain Friday night at Fairbury.
Mowery, who rushed for a game-high 128 yards, scored on runs of 55 and 47 yards in the first half to help Prairie Central (2-1, 2-1) gain a 30-14 lead by halftime. Sipe’s touchdowns came on a 75-yard kickoff return with a minute left before half and a 48-yard TD reception from Peters in the third period.
Peters, who completed 10 of 15 passes for 173 yards, also connected with Mitchell McDonald on a 29-yard scoring toss in the third quarter.
Eureka (0-3, 0-3) rallied in the second half behind quarterback Sam Durley, who completed 12 of 30 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. Durley threw scoring passes of 32 and 10 yards to Chad Pyles and 28 yards to Darin Burns. The second one to Pyles came at the 10-minute mark of the fourth quarter and pulled the Hornets within 38-36.
Eureka had a final chance late but was stopped at the Prairie Central 25-yard line on an interception by McDon-ald. Other Eureka touchdowns came on an 85-yard kick return from Matt Dawson to open the second half and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Zach Burwell.
