Some CEFCU customers experience debit card problems

BLOOMINGTON -- A small number of CEFCU customers may have been rejected when they pulled out their debit cards Wednesday morning.

CEFCU cardholders may have experienced problems with PIN-based transactions at merchants or at non-CEFCU-owned ATMs, said Sue Yoder, vice president of marketing for the Peoria-based credit union.

The error was a result of difficulties with the company’s conversion to a new processor, Yoder said.

Likely, only about 1 percent of members were not able to use their cards, Yoder said. Members who used ATMs that were part of the CEFCU-owned Money Center 24 Network or Fast Track Tellers were not affected, she said.

The problem for PIN-based purchase transactions at merchants was fixed Wednesday morning. The remaining ATM issues were expected to be solved by Thursday morning, she said.

" Not true. My card was rejected as both a debit (pin-based) and credit at Walmart on Market and my cashier said "several" other CEFCU cards had been rejected before mine. "
