BLOOMINGTON -- A full-grown horse was on the loose in Bloomington on Wednesday afternoon, though police said they were able to corral the animal on the east side after about half an hour.

The horse was first spotted in the 1000 block of South Morris Avenue just before 4 p.m., police said. Police tracked the horse down and had it under control in the 1000 block of Rheinthaler Drive by around 4:30 p.m., police said.

It was not immediately clear who owns the horse, and animal-control officials have been contacted, police said.

" to Zeva:
actually a foal is a baby horse. A yearling is a horse from the ages of 1 to 2 years, a colt is a male horse under the age of four years, and filly is a female horse under the age of four. A mare would be an adult female and a stallion (non-castrated) or gelding (castrated) is an adult male.
A pony doesn't specify age or even height all the time. A horse and pony are two different creatures, although they are related. So I would assume since most people aren't familiar with all the terms of horses, the pantagraph writer wanted to keep it simple so everyone could understand. "

" I love this title; if it wasn't a full grown horse it would have been a pony so why specify full grown. Simply say a horse or pony. "

wild horse? i doubt it. was the horse scared ? im sure "

dalmanites wrote on Sep 24, 2008 8:24 PM:

" I seriously doubt that this was a wild horse. It appears that it was an escaped horse and that means an excited horse, especially when it's chased by vehicles and whooping men. "
