LEROY -- LeRoy Police Chief Gordon Beck is reminding residents to keep homes, cars and outbuildings secured, especially at night, after two burglaries last week in LeRoy’s Golden Eagle subdivision.

Two homes were entered late on Sept. 23 or early on Sept. 24 through unlocked garage doors. Cash, a gift card and jewelry were taken from one home and jewelry from the other.

Since arriving in LeRoy, Beck has tried to set up neighborhood watch programs, but has not been successful. He said his department will put up watch signs, do security checks and hold information sessions for those who are interested.

" LOCK your doors, people of LeRoy!! I know we didn't have to lock our doors when we were kids, but times have changed a great deal in the last 50 years. With the economy situation, there are those 'out there' who will come in and there are those 'out there' who will kill you, too. I don't want to read that someone I have known all my life or worse yet, that my brother and his wife have been injured or killed. I live out of state now and love and miss my family and friends too much to read that they have been hurt. "
