NORMAL -- A local entertainment company has opened a new television production studio where it will produce commercials and music videos and highlight local artists on a public access show.
Radar Entertainment Group's new 2,500-square-foot studio is adjacent to its existing audio recording facility at 1201 Major St. It's equipped with professional camera and audio equipment, lighting, a "green screen" for visual effects and a stage for performances, said Lenore Lockwood, Radar's operations manager.
Radar opened the TV studio to offer businesses and artists a cost-effective way to produce commercials and music videos, she said. A business, for example, can hire Radar to produce a 30-second TV commercial for $350, which includes filming, editing, voiceover and music, Lockwood said.
"We know production for commercials can be expensive," she said. "We opened this new side up to make it more affordable for an artist or business to get a visual out there."
Radar shot some commercials prior to the new studio, and its clients include Lloyd's Affordable Automotive in Normal, she said. It also volunteered its services for a behind-the-scenes video for an episode of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" shot in Pekin, she said.
Radar also plans to produce a weekly show called "Under the Radar," which will showcase musicians, dancers, comedians and other artists, who won't have to pay to get on the show. The show will air locally on Comcast's Channel 20, likely starting in the next few months, Lockwood said.
In the future, Radar may also start a community affairs program to highlight nonprofits and local events.
Radar is seeking artists who want to appear on "Under the Radar" and interns to work on the show and perform other studio work. For more information, call 309-808-1762.
Radar Entertainment Group is owned by Antonio "Tizone" Street, who first opened Radar Recording Studios at a different location in Normal in 2007.
