BLOOMINGTON — After an absence of two decades, Brown’s Chicken will return to the Twin Cities.
The new location is scheduled to open in late April at 2303 E. Washington St., Bloomington, the former location of Coconut Louie’s.
“Brown’s Chicken was here years ago before it was shut down,” said owner Saeed Ahmed. “I want to bring it back. It’s a Chicago franchise and many people here are from Chicago.”
Ahmed said renovations will begin soon, including an upgrade to the bathrooms. He is awaiting permit approval from the city.
“It’s going to be a nice sit-in restaurant,” said Ahmed, who added he plans to hire about 15 to 20 employees for the new location.
Brown’s Chicken will be a second restaurant in the Twin Cities owned by Ahmed, who currently runs Super JJ Fish and Chicken on West Market Street.
Brown’s will open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Bloomington’s former Brown’s Chicken location on East Vernon Avenue in Bloomington shuttered in the early 1990s. The chain restaurant has more than 30 locations in Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
