BLOOMINGTON — Twin City residents will soon have a new destination to clean their car.

Construction crews from Building Systems of Illinois in Decatur began foundation work earlier this month at a vacant lot near Main and Chestnut streets in Bloomington. The lot, located next to Quinn’s Shell Station, will be turned into Rainstorm Car Wash.

Owner Daniel Dougherty of Forsyth said he expects the business to open around Labor Day. The drive-through wash will be the fourth Rainstorm location. The chain already has two locations in Decatur and one in Champaign.

Dougherty said the other Rainstorm locations have been successful because speed is a top priority. The goal is to get customers in and out of the wash within minutes.

“We’re going to be extremely fast,” Dougherty said. “We will focus on getting people in and out. No one wants to wait in line.”

The business will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

The guy that owns PALS has no concept of customer service. He might be plugged in to Bloomington business royalty but it's time for a change.

You folks who saved a pile of dough with your Earl Shieb paint jobs should definitely avoid these places. Rumor has it that the paint washing off the cars is clogging the drains.

I've had numerous cars and trucks and can say ive never had a paint job damaged by an automatic car wash. There must be a problem with the paint job to begin with if that happens. If you wash at home as which i do as well you have to make sure you use the proper things to wash your car with. And I only use a chamois to wipe down my car. No towels or rags.

I live in Bloomington and work in Decatur. I use the Rainstorm here all the time and they do a great job. No ratty towels to this one it gets blow dried. The deal i get is $20 a month unlimited washes not $20 per trip. Heads up PAL!!!

I like washing my car myself. I don't rush to wash my car. Would you rush to clean your house? Think about it...Faster is not always better.

These drive through washes are nothing but swirl-o-matics. They leave the paint in the worst condition with swirls and halos ALL over them. Then you have the kids outside using ratty towels to wipe down the car and this just makes the situation worse. But lucky for me this gives me more customers who come to me to fix their paint and do a proper wash, paint correction, sealant and wax!

Don't know about the rest of you, but I go to a car wash to get my car clean, not be first out the door.

Looks like Parkway Auto Laundry might have to adjust their prices a bit. I like PAL, but being the only show in town has made them fairly pricey in my opinion. If the new place is anywhere near the same service, the competition will be stiff, especially if they focus on getting people in and out.
