NORMAL — There's a new Starbucks in town and the grand opening in uptown Normal went like clockwork.
“We have a really good team and they were very eager to get open and get started,” said manager Sue Gadbois, just a few hours after the store opened on Monday inside the Hyatt Place hotel at 200 Broadway Ave.
“Starbucks knows what they are doing, obviously, and know all there is to know about opening a new store and so everything went very well.”
The restaurant was filled with customers as soon as the store opened at 6 a.m. she said.
“It was busy right off the bat,” she said. “It’s been very consistent.”
Amy Armwood, a self-described Starbucks fan and Illinois State University junior, said she is thrilled with having a Starbucks so close in uptown.
“I’ve always loved Starbucks and now I can hit this in between classes,” she said. “I’ve been waiting since the start of the semester for it to open.”
The store employs 21 people, Gadbois said.
“We have so many things going for us here, including our employees, which I have been very impressed with so far,” she said. “But I love the location because it is convenient for hotel visitors, business people here in uptown Normal and students as well. That’s a great combination.”
The store will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. There are now eight Starbucks locations in the Twin Cities.
