KBL Design Center in Normal will close in January.

NORMAL — KBL Design Center will be closing its Normal showroom and consolidating its operations at its retail location in Peoria.

The showroom featuring bath and kitchen selections at 107 Mall Drive will close in January, the company announced Friday.

“Unfortunately, retail and economic realities, especially in Central Illinois, have changed dramatically in recent years, forcing us to consolidate our operations into our Peoria location," Walter Zich, president and CEO of KBL, said in a statement.

"We will focus on growing our sales to Central Illinois contractors, electricians and designers by hiring additional outside sales consultants,” he added.

A store consolidation sale will start Nov. 17, allowing KBL to sell off inventory from both its retail locations and its discount center located in Edwards near Peoria.

At the same time, KBL will be rolling out KBL Surfaces that will be located next to the discount center in Edwards. KBL Surfaces will offer floor coverings, counter tops, custom-installed closets and shower systems.

Zich said he hopes that every employee in the Normal store will stay with KBL Design Center, either selling/servicing area contractors in the Twin City market, or working at the Peoria store, where it has been since 1986.

The company opened a store in Bloomington in 2004 and moved to the Normal location in 2010.
