BLOOMINGTON — Nikita Richards of the city of Bloomington has been named Outstanding Woman in Communications by the Bloomington-Normal chapter of the Association for Women in Communications.
The award was announced Thursday night during group's annual Crystal Awards ceremony at DoubleTree by Hilton. The awards honor women whose professional and personal efforts embody the ideal of communication.
Richards, owner of NDR Communications, is a human resource employment coordinator with the city. The other nominee was Kim Kaufman of State Farm.
Sarah Franzen and Betty Kinser won the Communication Innovator Award, which honors excellence in communicating a project, mission, or event.
Franzen is a community relations analyst at Country Financial, and won for her volunteer work with overseas mission teams. Kinser is a retired member of the Illinois State University Board of Trustees, where she was also an instructor and adviser.
Other nominees were Monica Cousins Noraian, Illinois State University, Melissa Ramirez, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Beth Whisman, Children's Discovery Museum.
Kris Harding won the Crystal Award, which recognizes the chapter member of the year. Harding is president-elect of the chapter and has helped The Baby Fold and Leadership Illinois. She is enrolled in Leadership McLean County Class of 2018. Other nominees were Molly Davis, ISU, and Kari McMullen, State Farm.
A $500 scholarship was awarded to Julia Gramont, an ISU graduate student and president of the AWC student chapter at ISU.
