Musical groups head to the sheds for concerts

Yes, we previewed the bounty of summer music attractions right here in Pantagraphland several weeks ago. But there was so much stuff going on within a mere 50-mile radius of Bloomington-Normal that we didn't have the breathing room to take any musical day trips.

This week, we're remedying that omission with our annual salute to the shed-heads among us - that fair-weather species of concertgoer most commonly found huddling in either open-air pavilions or stretching out on the lawns and hills adjoining them.

"Shed," by the way, is the preferred industry term for these open-air pavilions and their surrounding turf.

For Central Illinois shed-heads, the four manageable options lie roughly 2½ hours to the north, south and east, near Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis.

Following are the most up-to-date schedules for these venues, which typically schedule concerts through mid-to-late September and add more as the season progresses:


Chicago area
