Slightly bigger than your average county fair, but not quite on the state fair level, is Peoria's fence-sitting Heart of Illinois Fair, returning for the umpteenth time Friday to the grounds of Exposition Gardens. In addition to traditional fixtures like the carnival midway and ag-themed exhibits is the nightly entertainment outlay, featuring a little country (Randy Houser) and a lot of rock (Candlebox, Trapt, Sevendust, Hells Bells, etc.). The occasion, of course: the annual Prairie Air Show, touching down from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday atthe Peoria International Air port in Peoria. Among the highlights: the U.S. Air Force Inspire Tour, a display of high-tech elements and cutting- edge simulations (it'll also be set up on the downtown Peoria riverfront for the air show's preview night at 5 p.m. Friday).
