NORMAL - Veteran actor Danny Glover will bring to life one of Central Illinois' famous sons as part of a two-man performance coming Jan. 23 to Illinois State University.
"An Evening with Martin and Langston" features Glover as celebrated poet-writer Langston Hughes, who lived in Lincoln during his youth and is said to have written his first poem there.
Also featured will be Glover's longtime friend and fellow actor, Felix Justice, portraying Martin Luther King Jr.
Presented by ISU President Al Bowman and ISU's NAACP student chapter, the performance is in the Bone Student Center's Brown Ballroom and will be preceded by cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6.
Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for non-students, with reservations available by phone at (309) 438-8790, or on-line at www.universityevents.ilstu.edu/mlk.
"An Evening with Martin and Langston" features Justice recreating two of King's most memorable speeches and Glover presenting theatrical readings of works by Hughes, considered one of the most important writers and thinkers of the 1920s Harlem Renaissance.
A question-and-answer session with the two actors will follow the performance.
Glover is best known for his roles in the "Lethal Weapon" movies and the Oscar-winning "Places in the Heart" and "The Color Purple."
Justice has been friends with Glover since both were struggling actors in San Francisco, and has performed and directed many theater productions.
