Entertainment calendar for the week of Dec. 22, 2011.

GO! polar: Be sure to check out local collector John Morris' amazing holiday figurine collection now on view as part of the Children's Discovery Museum North Pole Village display, through Jan. 3.

GO! slo-mo: ... in fact, go slower than slo-mo, go motionless -- as in Motionless In White, the Scranton, Pa., metalcore band headlining a Castle Theatre meltdown at 7 tonight, with openers For The Fallen Dreams, Like Moths to Flames and By Any Means.

GO! to Havens: You don't have to die to go to Havens, but the former State Farm employee-turned-comic wouldn't object if you died laughing at his show, at 8 p.m. Friday in Mason City's hah-house, Mason City Limits.

GO! Steve-adore: Only Steven Spielberg would dare dominate the biggest movie-going weekend of the year with not one, but two new offerings: "Adventures of Tintin" (opened Tuesday) and "War Horse" (opens Sunday).

GO! bowl-ing: The McLean County Arts Center's exhibit, "Tea," serves up ceramic Japanese tea bowls created stateside by more than 30 Illinois artists, today through Saturday.

GO! wing it: Our favorite bulbous-nosed angel touches down again at the Normal Theater tonight through Sunday to prove "It's a Wonderful Life" -- especially if Frank Capra directs it.

GO! hurry Uptown: Uptown Normal's "12 Days of Christmas" are almost down and out for the count, with only Nos. 10 (today), 11 (Friday) and 12 (Saturday) left to go. Check out their themes at www.uptownnormal.com.

DOWN THE ROAD

Yes, Santa, there is a Virginia: The historic Virginia Theater in downtown Champaign recently added a bundle of winter-spring shows to its regular mix of movies and live entertainment. First up, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27, is veteran country-folk singer Emmylou Harris, with tickets priced from $33 to $79. She's followed at 8 p.m. Feb. 18 by singing political parodists The Capitol Steps, with seats going from $18 to $39. At 7:30 p.m. March 6, Irish rockers Gaelic Storm -- famous for their appearance in "Titanic" 14 years ago -- headline a show, with tickets $18 to $40. Also headed Virginia-way is the acrobatic dance troupe, The Passing Zone: Gravity Attracts, at 7:30 p.m. April 10. Tickets for that show are $14 to $24. The Virginia's box office number is 217-356-9063.

Trans-action: They passed our way earlier this holiday season via the Peoria Civic Center. If you missed that call, take heart: the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is headed back to Central Illinois for a non-seasonal encore, March 16 at the U of I Assembly Hall in Champaign. Still to be announced (as of press time) were ticket prices and an on-sale date. Stay tuned.

A river dances through us: The farewell tour of Riverdance is leaving no Central Illinois market untouched. The Irish dance extravaganza, calling it a wrap in June, had already set performances in Champaign (7:30 p.m. March 7, U of I Assembly Hall) and Springfield (7 p.m. March 25, Sangamon Auditorium). Now, it has added a third date, at 7:30 p.m. March 11, in the Peoria Civic Center. Those seats are $39 to $59, and are now on sale via the PCC box office and Ticketmaster.

Ticket stubs: Due to popular demand, a second show for comedian Jim Gaffigan has been added to his March 23 stand at the Peoria Civic Center. In addition to the previously announced 7 p.m. show, there'll be an encore at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $39.75 and $49.75, and now on sale ... Disney Channel star Bella Thorne ("Shake It Up's" CeCe Jones) will sign autographs at the Jan. 28 Drive game in Bloomington's U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Her session will be from noon to 3 p.m. in the concourse; the appearance is free with regular game admission ($10-$12).
