BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department has launched a "more user-friendly" website and registration system.
"The old website was not very phone-friendly, and we have found out a great majority of people use their phones to look up our website," said department director Jay Tetzloff. "This new website will give them that ability, among other things."
On Jan. 1, new software will allow users to view the site and register for programs on multiple devices including phones, tablets and desktops.
"It's multi-faceted software that kind of brings us out of the dark ages when it comes to technology," he added. "There's a lot more that residents will be able to do online. Faciility rentals, that's a biggie.
"If you were to call us and want to rent the (Miller Park) Pavilion, our response today would be, 'Hold on, let me get the book.' You will be able look and see for yourself when something is available and request it.
If the pavilion is booked, visitors can view the department's other facilities to check availability. The website will also offer online payment, added Tetzloff.
The website includes easy navigation and homepage quick links to divisions such as Miller Park Zoo, golf courses, forestry, Pepsi Ice Center and more, according to city webmaster Craig McBeath.
Past registrants will be required to create a new household account before registering. The department suggests creating the account before registering for a program.
The winter/spring program guide is at BloomingtonParks.org and registration for Bloomington residents opens Jan. 4; nonresident registration starts Jan. 11.
