BLOOMINGTON — Joan “Jo” Widmer of Bloomington will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. March 10 at Westminster Village, 2025 E. Lincoln St., Bloomington. Guests may enter using either the Lincoln Street or Mercer Avenue entrances. She requests no gifts.
She was born March 13, 1928, to Ezra and Hester Kuerth of Gridley. On Dec. 31, 1947, she married Edwin J. Widmer. He passed away July 20, 1994. They had two sons, Mark (Terry) Widmer, San Antonio, Texas, and Rob Widmer, Bloomington.
Her grandchildren are Matthew (Jessica) Widmer, Allen, Texas; Greg (Jennifer) Widmer, Aurora; Andrew (Adrienne) Widmer, Dallas, Texas; Jeff (Amanda) Widmer, Bloomington; Brad (Jessy) Widmer, Ashland; and Brock (Hayley) Werner, Lawndale. She has 16 great-grandchildren. Her sibling, Carolyn (John) Asper, is deceased.
Joan attended Illinois State Normal University and taught in a country school. She lived in and around Gridley all her life until moving to Westminster Village in 2011.
She always served whenever needed in her church, was on the Gridley Library Board for many years and was a member of McLean County Homemakers Extension for nearly 50 years. Reading is a favorite pastime now that she can no longer bake cookies, rolls and coffeecakes. Joan cherishes visits with her family, friends and fellow Westminster residents and is adored by all who know her well.
