LEXINGTON — Sam Harms of Lexington is celebrating his 100th birthday with a family wiener roast, a 50-year family tradition, and with a card shower.
He was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Forrest. He married LaVerne Petersen on Jan. 2, 1940. His siblings are Verna Ripsch, Morris; Ed Harms and Duke Harms, both of Forrest.
His children are Loren (Linda) Harms and Larry (Barb) Harms, both of Lexington, and Karen (Mark) Young, Bloomington. He has nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He is a retired farmer, having farmed his whole life, and saw many changes in the process. He enjoys gardening and is a Cubs fan. He is a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lexington.
