Jury selection is now complete for the trial of a Chicago man charged with raping and killing 11 women during the 1990s in the Englewood and New City neighborhoods on the city's South Side.
The defendant, 47-year-old Andre Crawford, is also on trial for the attempted murder and rape of a 12th woman. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
The final three jurors and six alternates were picked Friday. Cook County Circuit Court Judge Evelyn Clay has scheduled opening statements for Tuesday and says she expects the trial to last several weeks.
The case has been inching through the justice system over the last 10 years. Crawford has been awaiting trial longer than any other inmate in Cook County Jail.
