100 years ago

April 7, 1908: A note has been discovered in a Minonk toilet room, saying the killer of G.M. Bowers had been there. It was signed by one E. Pacy. Bowers was a tramp who was found murdered near the Crumbaugh railroad siding east of Leroy.

75 years ago

April 7, 1933: The first beer trucks arrived in Bloomington at 11:05 a.m. yesterday, in time for restaurants to serve beer at lunch. The Chicago truck brought a load of Edelweiss. The truck from St. Louis delivered a load of Falstaff. (Both labels survived for years, but are now gone.)

50 years ago

April 7, 1958: Donations to the 1958 Cancer Crusade are ahead of the 1957 pace by $1,300. Drive chairman L.M. Gillain reports that receipts as of this morning totaled $4,513.

25 years ago

April 7, 1983: There was a lot of fallout over the March 16 escape of Pontiac prison inmate, Anthony Davis. Six guards were fired, another resigned, and four employees were suspended. Davis was caught and later returned to Pontiac.
