OTTAWA - A three-year contract has been approved by the Ottawa high school board, similar to an Oct. 16 proposal offered to teachers.

The board also named Principal Matt Winchester as interim superintendent to replace John Harrison, who died Oct. 11.

After a nearly four-week strike, the board agreed to pay teachers a base salary of $34,621 for the first year, up 1 percent from the previous contract. Teachers also agreed to a medical package that will not cost taxpayers more than the current rate, school officials said.

Streator high school teachers, who still have a year left on their contract, are paid a base salary of $32,051.
