BLOOMINGTON - A Bloomington man was hit with a Taser after running from police who were trying to arrest him for allegedly dumping over flower pots in downtown Bloomington.
Police said Walter Farris, 21, was taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center on Tuesday morning. Farris fell and hit his face on the ground after an officer used his stun gun to stop him. Farris, 300 block of north Center Street, was treated and released.
Farris and Daniel Burke, 22, 900 block of North East Street, were stopped at 12:51 a.m. Tuesday near Center and Chestnut streets after allegedly breaking a flower pot at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Police spokesman Duane Moss said officers first found flowers and containers torn off the front of Kelly's Bakery, 113 N. Center St., and soon found a trail of several large, city-owned flower pots knocked over.
Farris and Burke have been charged in McLean County Circuit Court with misdemeanor criminal damage to property. Farris also faces one count of resisting arrest, also a misdemeanor.
