CHATSWORTH - Illinois State Police on Friday released the names of the two drivers injured in a crash Thursday afternoon involving a construction crane and a semitrailer truck west of Chatsworth.

Robert W. Overman, 42, of Bloomington was westbound on U.S. 24 about 2:30 p.m. near Livingston County 3200 East driving a crane owned by R.R. Hafley Crane Service Inc., Bloomington, when the crane's right front spindle broke, a state police crash report said.

Overman lost control and crossed the center line, colliding with a semitrailer truck driven by Will David Whipple, 55, of Ashley, Ill, who was eastbound on U.S. 24.

Overman's crane overturned in a ditch, and Whipple's truck came to rest on the right shoulder of U.S. 24, police said.

The truck's fuel tank ruptured, spilling 15 to 20 gallons on the road. The road was closed for a time for cleanup, but no waterways were nearby to cause pollution concern, authorities said.

Overman was transported to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, where he was no longer listed as a patient Friday afternoon, a nursing supervisor said. Whipple was taken to OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac, where he was no longer listed as a patient Friday.

Overman was charged with having broken wheel fasteners on the crane, state police said.
