SPRINGFIELD - Congressional hopeful Aaron Schock is re-using materials from his previous campaigns for state office in his bid to replace U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood, according to state records released Tuesday.

State campaign finance reports show Schock's federal campaign fund bought about $5,100 worth of office furniture and $1,880 worth of photography from the account used for his state races.

In fact, clips from Schock's campaign commercials from his bids to become a state representative can be seen in ads that have hit the air in his congressional race.

Schock campaign manager Steven Shearer said Schock's campaign for Congress consulted with an attorney to come up with prices for the furniture and photography so that neither campaign caught a deal in the swap.

Schock, a Peoria Republican, is locked in a primary battle with former Peoria City Councilman John Morris of Peoria and businessman Jim McConoughey of Dunlap.

McConoughey campaign manager Matt Bisbee said he wants to compare the timing of Schock's recent state campaign spending against federal records to make sure they're "in sync."

Federal campaign finance filings for Illinois candidates are due out Thursday.

Tuesday's filings show Schock with about $100,000 in his state account as of the end of the year. Because federal and state campaigns operate under different rules, he can't transfer that money for use in his congressional race.

If he loses the Feb. 5 primary election, Schock may need that money for future political races.

If he wins, he'll have several options for his state campaign cash including giving it to charities and political party committees, Shearer said.

"We'll get to that sometime in the next couple months," Shearer said.
