BLOOMINGTON - Two more of the city's top administrators are taking the early retirement offer. | Bloomington not likely to talk about juvenile crime Monday

Deputy City Manager Brian Brakebill and Finance Director Brian Barnes are among 23 city employees who will retire during the city's fiscal year.

Barnes' last day with the city was Tuesday and Brakebill will leave in two weeks, said City Manager Tom Hamilton, who himself is retiring in January.

The City Council approved offering an early retirement package to employees age 50 or older with 20 years of enrollment into the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. Employees have until April 30, 2009, the end of the city's current fiscal year, to take advantage of the program.

It will be up to the new city manager to fill the deputy city manager and finance director positions, added Hamilton.

In the meantime, Hamilton said he and Deputy City Manager Barb Adkins will cover the responsibilities of those two positions.

"We are fortunate in that we don't have a lot of turnover so there are good employees with a lot of institutional knowledge," Hamilton said. "That will lessen the impact of taking on the additional duties for the next few months."

Barnes started as the city's finance director in 1996. He previously worked as finance manager for the village of Flossmoor and held a similar post at the DuPage County Health Department.

Brakebill was named deputy city manager in 2006. Previously, he was director of public service, a job he started in 2004.

The city hired Brakebill in 1980 and appointed him superintendent of streets and sewers in 1995.
