BLOOMINGTON - An 18-year-old man walked into the sheriff's department, asked if he had a warrant for his arrest and bolted when told yes, a sergeant said.
And a friend and a relative of the 18-year-old were pinched on unrelated charges when police caught up with him.
McLean County Sgt. Brent Wick said the man, named Judge D. Harris, came into the lobby of his department with another man, identified himself and asked if he was wanted on a warrant early Tuesday afternoon.
Wick said he told Harris there was a warrant out for his arrest and turned to grab a paper in the case when Harris and the other man ran out the door.
Wick said he wasn't able to leave the desk and give chase. But officers were dispatched to find Harris.
Harris was found less than 10 blocks away at 910 S. Center St., the home address listed on his warrant, Wick said.
While at the home, deputies arrested a second man, Lawrence Harris, on an unrelated warrant and a third man, Courtlean Jones, on accusations of possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
The man who had come to the station with Harris was not arrested, Wick said.
But Harris was arrested on a preliminary charge of escape and obstructing a police officer. And the warrant for his arrest related to prior charge of resisting a police officer.
In the prior resisting case, Harris entered a guilty plea August 29 to pulling away from an officer attempting to handcuff him July 25, a court file says. He was sentenced to four days in jail, 18 months of conditional discharge and financial penalties.
Harris was supposed to pay all fines and court costs by October 6 or appear in court that morning, the file says. But an entry in the court file says he failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest six days later.
