BLOOMINGTON - A jury convicted a Bloomington man Thursday of two counts of selling cocaine and acquitted him of a third count of selling the drug.

The jury deliberated about eight hours over two days before returning the split verdict against George C. Hursey, 37.

George "Chris" Hursey

He was accused of selling drugs to two confidential police sources on three different occasions last year. The jury found Hursey, also known as Chris Hursey, guilty of the Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 drug deals involving one of the police sources. He was found innocent of an Oct. 9 drug transaction with another police informant.

A charge of conspiring to sell cocaine was dismissed prior to the three-day jury trial. A Sept. 12 sentencing is set for Hursey, who faces 30 years in prison on the convictions.

During the trial, McLean County Assistant State's Attorney Pablo Eves told the jury the background of police sources was imperfect but their work with police proved Hursey was a drug dealer. The state showed a police surveillance tape of Hursey and one of the sources on Oct. 29 outside Hursey's Bloomington home.

No surveillance was taken of the Oct. 9 drug sale, said Eves.

Defense attorney Steve Skelton argued the two informants were not trustworthy because of their drug addictions.

Hursey has been held in lieu of $20,000.
