BLOOMINGTON - Two Michigan residents were arraigned Friday on Class X felony charges of marijuana trafficking.

Otis D. Taylor, 50, of Detroit and Paula M. Ledbetter, 34, of Inkster, Mich., each face charges of unlawful possession with intent to deliver marijuana, unlawful possession of marijuana and marijuana trafficking.

The drug counts were filed after police confiscated about 60 pounds of marijuana in a traffic stop March 13.

State police stopped a minivan driven by Taylor in March on Interstate 55 north of Normal. The traffic stop was for improper lane usage and police arrested Taylor on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

Ledbetter told Judge Robert Freitag she plans to hire a private attorney from Michigan to represent her on the McLean County charges and Taylor said he would request a public defender.

Taylor and Ledbetter pleaded innocent to the charges. If convicted of the trafficking charges, the defendants could face up to 60 years in prison and fines up to $400,000.

An April 19 status hearing is set for Taylor and April 26 for Ledbetter.
