NORMAL -- There won't be any excuse for kids and their parents not to get exercise Saturday.

It's the third annual Worldwide Day of Play featuring five venues and lots of free events to get families up and moving.

New to the lineup this year is the YWCA, 1201 N. Hershey Road, Bloomington.

"We have a similar audience and similar mission," said Heather Young, public affairs coordinator for the Children's Discovery Museum, one of the Worldwide Day of Play sites. "Their location is perfect with indoor and outdoor space and a large gymnasium."

Laura Kowalczyk, director of marketing and communications for the YWCA, said Worldwide Day of Play really fits with the agency's program.

"We feel it's important for families to play together and interact," she said.

Activities at the YWCA will include a bounce house, relay races, an obstacle course and interactive karate demonstrations. Illinois State University PE teacher educators will provide fun, quick activities that can be used at home, Kowalczyk said, and Y teachers will give ideas for make-it, take-it sports equipment.

Young said Eastland Chiropractic and Wellness, the day's presenting sponsor, will be at all locations. At the museum, it will have kid-sized workout equipment. The museum also will feature a "move and groove" dance party, "Simon Says Play," kids' aerobics and a jungle adventure obstacle course.

Events at Anderson Park will include the Upper Limits rock wall and a scavenger hunt on the new Learning Trail.

Families are encouraged to bring their bikes to McGraw Park for activities and there will be the NEOS electronic game. Originally, the Bloomington event was going to be at Tipton Park.

The first 300 children at the parks and museum events will receive a goodie bag that includes two tickets to the ISU volleyball game that day.

The tickets allow families to get into the Reggie Fun Zone, which will include rock climbing and inflatables, before the game. Another fun zone is planned before the ISU football game.
