BLOOMINGTON - A 15-year-old Bloomington boy was arrested Friday in connection with four armed robberies of pizza-delivery drivers earlier this week, authorities said.

The boy was taken into custody along with an 18-year-old Bloomington man Friday morning after they allegedly placed a delivery order at a Normal pizza restaurant using a cell phone tied to some of this week's armed robberies, police said.

Staff at Papa Johns in Normal contacted police after someone called the restaurant from a cell phone number that investigators had linked to the previous robberies and had passed along to businesses to look out for.

Detectives and patrol officers went to the location where the Papa Johns caller had requested a delivery - two medium sausage and pepperoni pizzas - and found the two males in an apartment building, said Normal police Sgt. Dan Kelley.

They were arrested without incident, and a handgun was recovered, authorities said.

The two were later transferred to Bloomington police custody, where the 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the four robberies. As of late Friday afternoon, the 18-year-old does not face charges in connection with the cases, Bloomington police said.

Timeline of robberies

The first robbery happened around 12:55 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of North Lee Street, and a weapon was implied. The second robbery just a few blocks away occurred around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, and a handgun was displayed.

The third and fourth robberies, each involving a handgun, happened midday Thursday within an hour of each other in the same two-block area east of downtown Bloomington.

No one was reported injured in any of the four robberies.

Bloomington police said it was possible the same suspect or suspects were responsible in all four robberies, as the general description matched in each case.

Kelley said the suspects arrested Friday had matched the general description provided to Bloomington police by witnesses and victims.

The relationship between the 15-year-old and 18-year-old was not immediately clear late Friday.
