BLOOMINGTON - A dozen guns were stolen during an armed robbery of a couple Tuesday night at an east-side Bloomington home, police said Wednesday.

The robbery took place shortly after 9 p.m., when a woman at a home on Carleton Court answered the doorbell to find two men wearing all-black clothing and surgical masks covering their faces and holding handguns, Bloomington Police spokesman Duane Moss said.

The men pushed their way past the 45-year-old woman into the house and announced that they were robbing the couple, police said.

One of the robbers remained in the front room with the couple while the other went to another room in the house and filled a duffle bag with weapons taken from display cases.

The robbers then left the home and the woman told police that she locked the door and called 911, but did not look outside to see which way the men fled.

The man, 64, reported to police that the weapons taken were six handguns, five rifles and one 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun. The weapons appeared to be the only thing stolen from the home, Moss said. Police did not have an approximate value for the stolen weapons.

Police called out a canine unit in an attempt to track the men, but the dog was unable to pick up which way the robbers went, Moss said.

The robbers were described by the couple as black males in their 20s and of average height. The weapons they were carrying were described by the male homeowner as a "Saturday Night Special" - a type of small handgun - and a chrome Colt .45.

There were no injuries reported in the case and police are still investigating.
