BLOOMINGTON - Illinois Sen. Barack Obama defeated Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., by less than 900 votes in McLean County on his way to the presidency Tuesday night. | Turnout in Bloomington nears 80 percent

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Obama won 37,551 votes in McLean County (including Bloomington), just under 900 more than McCain's 36,657.

At city of Bloomington precincts, Obama won 17,523 votes, or 52.8 percent, over McCain's 15,123 votes, or 45.6 percent.

In McLean County's election jurisdiction, which includes precincts outside Bloomington city limits, McCain led with 21,534 votes, or 50.8 percent. Obama won 20,028 outside the city of Bloomington in McLean County, or 47.2 percent.
