Winners announced in band contest
NORMAL - Local winners at the Illinois State University Invitational Marching Championships on Oct. 11 were:
Class 1A: first, Eureka High School; third, University High School, Normal, also best winds and percussion; Olympia High School, crowd appeal.
Class 2A: first, Morton High School; third, Pontiac High School.
Class 4A: first, Normal Community West High School, also best winds and crowd pleaser; second, Bloomington High School.
Deadline approaches for tree reservation
BLOOMINGTON - Deadline is Friday to sponsor a tree in the grove between Bloomington high and junior high schools.

Take Back the Night event set Oct. 22
NORMAL - Feminist Led Activist Movement to Empower at Illinois State University will sponsor "Take Back the Night" at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Brown Ballroom of Bone Student Center.
The event raises awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Zoo drive benefits conservation work
BLOOMINGTON - Miller Park Zoo, 1020 S. Morris Ave., will collect aluminum cans through Nov. 1. Funds raised will be used for conservation efforts.
