SPRINGFIELD - A Green Party candidate has begun a run for Congress in the race to succeed U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood.
Sheldon Schafer of Peoria filed his candidacy and will face Republican Aaron Schock of Peoria and Democrat Colleen Callahan of Kickapoo in the race.
Schock is serving a second term in the Illinois House and Callahan is a former farm broadcaster.
They join Schafer in competing to represent the 18th Congressional District, which includes the northern parts of Decatur and Macon County, all of Logan County and parts of Woodford and Tazewell counties.
Schafer didn't immediately return a call for comment Wednesday morning.
