CAYUGA - A basement electrical box is blamed for a Sunday fire in Cayuga. No one was injured.
Pontiac Fire Chief John Cummins said heavy smoke was reported at two-story home, 18266 E. 2150 North Road, at noon. The unfurnished house was unoccupied; owner Roger Rupprecht was remodeling the home for a family member.
Departments from Pontiac, Flanagan, Cornell, Odell, Saunemin, Cullom, Chatsworth, Forrest, Dwight, Campus, Emington and Fairbury responded. The Southeast Livingston County Ambulance Service and Kempton Fire Department covered at the Pontiac station. Duffy Ambulance also responded.
Cummins said the fire was under control by 2:30 p.m. Cummins said the Illinois State Fire Marshal's service said the fire started in an electrical box in the basement.
Flames were in the basement and kitchen, and smoke was visible throughout, Cummins said. He said the damage made the house uninhabitable.
