BLOOMINGTON -- Police recovered a machete from a 28-year-old man and arrested him and four other men Sunday morning, said Bloomington Police Sgt. Don Newton.
Nobody was injured, Newton said.
Police were called at 1:12 a.m. to Windjammer Lounge, 2303 Stern Drive, to investigate a report of six men beating one man, Newton said. When officers arrived, nobody at the scene provided information, Newton said.
Police were called to the scene again at 1:34 a.m. to investigate a report of an armed suspect, Newton said. Officers chased five suspects and recovered a machete from one man, Newton said. The men were inside the bar when officers arrived, said Bloomington police Sgt. Tim McCoy.
The man who allegedly possessed the machete faces preliminary charges of unlawful use of a firearm and two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
The four other men, from 23 to 47 years old, all of Bloomington, each face a preliminary charge of resisting or obstructing a peace officer. The resisting and obstructing charges are due to the men's running from police and not obeying lawful orders from police, Newton said.
The Pantagraph does not name arrestees until charges are filed by the state's attorney's office.
