Bed frames, mattresses stolen

NORMAL - Some 159 bed frames, 61 box springs and 74 mattresses were stolen from Verlo Mattress Factory, 1717 Fort Jesse Road, said Normal police.

The items were stolen between March 1 and Oct. 22. The loss was reported to police in late November.

Burglary - A laptop computer and four computer games were stolen between Nov. 21-30 from an apartment in the 200 block of West Willow Street, Normal police said.

Burglary - A window was broken in a car and a purse stolen Nov. 26 from the 600 block of Hillview Drive, Normal police said. Missing were makeup and a driver's license.

Burglary - A purse was stolen in a 10-minute period Nov. 26 from a car in the 300 block of Kingsley Street, Normal police said.

Theft - A purse was stolen Nov. 29 from Shoe Carnival, 1700 E. College Ave., Normal police said.

Theft - A wallet was stolen from a purse Nov. 28 at Dick's Sporting Goods, 200 Greenbriar Drive, Normal police said.

Man gets jail, probation for stabbing

BLOOMINGTON - A Bloomington man was placed on 30 months' probation and ordered to serve 180 days in jail for stabbing a man in July.

Andrew Menssen, 19, of the 200 block of West Seminary Avenue, also was ordered to pay $2,584 to the victim and complete alcohol treatment. Menssen was accused of stabbing a man in a dispute over keys.

Domestic battery - A 29-year-old Bloomington man was placed on 30 months' probation for domestic battery, a subsequent offense.

Steven Barry Jr., of rural Bloomington, was charged with hitting a woman in October. He also must complete domestic violence counseling. He was sentenced to 84 days in jail and given credit for 42 served.

Deceptive practice - A Bloomington woman must serve 30 months' probation and pay $262 restitution for deceptive practice.

Asia Tea Barnes, 25, of the 700 block of South Evans Street, also was ordered to complete 130 hours of community service for writing three bad checks to Schnuck's in December 2007. A 90-day jail term was stayed pending a review.

Retail theft over $150 - Theft of merchandise valued at more than $150 from Kohl's resulted in 30 months' probation for a woman from Normal.

Rita Tammeus, 66, of the 400 block of Warren Avenue, also was fined $200. A second charge of retail theft less than $150 was dismissed.
