NEWARK - It may take up to two years for the Federal Aviation Administration to determine what caused a plane to crash that killed a New Lenox man, a LaSalle County coroner's jury learned Thursday in ruling the death an accident.

Joseph Johnson, 77, died July 21 when his new, single-engine airplane crashed into a soybean field near Cushing Field in Mission Township.

An autopsy showed no medical reason for the crash, Coroner Jody Bernard told the coroner's jury. Toxicology tests showed no drugs or alcohol in his system.

Family members after the inquest said Johnson was very meticulous about the condition of the planes he was using.

Johnson planned to fly to Aurora but crashed a few minutes after takeoff.
