SHIRLEY - An Elgin man suspected of killing his roommate was found dead Tuesday morning of a gunshot wound in a pickup truck at Funks Grove Rest Area, authorities said.
Jerimie L. Hoppe, 31, last of Elgin, was found dead about 9:20 a.m. in the rest area on southbound Interstate 55 near Shirley, McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said in a news release.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate he died from a single gunshot wound to the head, she reported. Forensic toxicology tests have been ordered, but no foul play is suspected, she said.
Authorities say they found a handgun in Hoppe's truck.
Hoppe was suspected of shooting his roommate, Sumaly Phanthavong, three times on Sunday inside their Elgin apartment, the coroner said. An arrest warrant on a first-degree murder charge was issued Monday, authorities said.
