BLOOMINGTON - Masked men robbed two South Main Street stores at gunpoint earlier this week, police said, though physical descriptions of the suspects differ in each incident.

The first robbery occurred about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at Freedom Oil, 1402 S. Main St., when an attendant turned to see a man pointing a gun at him from across the counter, said Bloomington Police spokesman Duane Moss. The man told the employee to open the register, and the employee placed the cash drawer on the counter, he said.

The employee obeyed the robber's orders to get on the floor and not to look at him, and he didn't see which way the armed man fled, Moss said. He called 911 after hearing the store's door open and close.

The second robbery occurred about 5:25 a.m. Thursday morning, when two men with handguns approached an employee outside Dairy Queen, 1718 S. Main St., Moss said. The employee and two gunmen went inside the store, where the men made the employee open a safe and subsequently face a wall as they left with cash.

The employee used his cell phone to call police, Moss said.

Physical descriptions

In the first robbery, the robber was described as a light-skinned black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing black cloth over his face, a black hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants, Moss said.

In the Dairy Queen robbery, the men were both described as black men between 6 feet and 6 feet 3 inches tall with thin builds. Both were wearing black cloth over their faces.

One of the men was wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants and the other man was wearing a black sweatshirt and sweatpants, Moss said.

Earlier robberies

There have been no arrests so far in two robberies earlier this month at a sandwich shop and an adult entertainment store. Two men implied they had weapons, but did not show weapons, in the robberies April 7 at Subway, 1907 W. Market St., and April 9 at Risque's Adult Entertainment Center, 1506 N. Main St.
