NORMAL - The status of a woman who left one accident Wednesday night was then hit by an SUV has been upgraded. Lois Saffer, 47, was listed in fair condition Saturday, a nursing supervisor said.
Saffer, of Fairbury, was driving alone on Interstate 55 between the Interstate 74 interchange and the Market Street exit when she veered off the road, struck a sign and fence and ended up in a field, Illinois State Police said. Saffer apparently walked away and was hit about 20 minutes later on Ropp Road about half a mile north of White Oak Road.
Police previously had not been able to talk to Saffer because she was unresponsive while at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, said McLean County sheriff's police Sgt. Jon Sandage.
McLean County sheriff's police were not releasing information Saturday night regarding whether the incident remained under investigation or whether citations had been issued.
